Company History of Toto Toilets:

Toto, Inc. is a Japanese company but they have been in North America since the late 1980's.

Long before Toto toilets came to the United States - way back in 1917 - the company became Japan's very first producer of toilets.

By 1946, the company had added faucets and fittings to their line of products and by 1958 they were making bathtubs as well.

By the year 2000, long before being eco-friendly was the appropriate thing to do, Toto had begun introducing eco friendly technology into their manufacturing process and end products through the use of things like SansGloss and EcoPower products.

Today, Toto continues to be a leading manufacturer of toilets and other bath products and they are still known for their commitment to eco-friendly products that aid in conservation.

Water Efficient Product Development

Before a single Toto toilet is ever manufactured, Toto begins the process of being eco-friendly by using computer modeling in their design process.

This computer modeling stimulates moving water to see just how water moves through a toilet.

Why do they do this? It allows them to design the best toilet bowl and trapways to conserve water. In fact, their toilets use far less water than 1.6 gallons of water per flush - the standard today.

The Double Cyclone flushing system - one of the company's most popular - only uses 1.28 gallons of water per flush! Over time, that saves a lot of water. In the United States,

Toto toilets were the first to include design innovations such as wider flush valves and larger trapways, which went a long ways in assisting with both flushing performance and water efficiency.

That's not all this company is doing though. The company has also used innovation in other areas of design and was the first to market with things like electronic sensor faucets in the United States and sensor flush valves, which automatically flush toilets when needed.

Eco Friendly Manufacturing Process

A product may be really eco friendly when it's completed, but true green products are made using sustainable processes as well.

Toto toilets are known for their sustainability, both during the design process and end use. Here's just a few of the things this company is doing to make sure they are operating in as eco-aware manner as possible.

Damaged china that can not be used in products is crushed and used for construction projects.

Clay slurry is reused for other manufacturing processes.

Gray water is recycled and used for other plant operations, which reduces potable water consumption in their workplace.

The kilns use pulse fire and reuse the exhaust heat for other operations.

Biodegradable soy products are used instead of carbon-based lubricants.

The company purchases green electricity from Georgia Power for use in its plants.

Within Toto toilet offices and plants, everything that can be recycled is recycled.

Employees of Toto are allowed to bring their recyclables from home to the office if they are unable to recycle them from their homes.

Line of Toto Toilets

There are a large number of different toilets available from Toto and they range in price from the mid-400's to well over a thousand dollars.

What's great about these toilets is that they come in a wide variety of designs, so consumers don't have to give up style in order to have a green toilet.

Toto offers traditional toilets as well as contemporary and traditional type toilets. Toto toilets are broken down into two subcategories

WaterSense certified toilets and Double Cyclone toilets.

Double Cyclone toilets are typically more expensive, but they utilize the best design on the market today. These toilets feature two nozzles to use water more efficiently and they also direct water towards the opening for a far more powerful flush. This allows users to flush away almost anything without using extra water.

Toto Toilets - The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that Toto toilets are a great selection for anyone who is interested in water conservation or green living. Even though these toilets cost slightly more than all their competition, the bottom line is that the extra expense is worth it with these toilets every time!
