Again, this is the second part of the song or the part b section.
This one starts off with a difficult hammer-ons succession of notes. The first three consist of a triplet hammer-on. To perform this be sure to have your LH first, second and third fingers ready to do their job.
Pick the first note (the open E), and quickly hammer on the second finger, while holding down the first finger. Then immediately hammer-on the third finger, while still holding down the first and second fingers.
Watch your timing in that the last hammer-on note is a quarter note, which will receive one full beat.
The next series of notes is a triplet hammer-on, pull-off combination. This is a bit easier in that it starts and ends with the open first string. Be sure to pull-off the note with enough force to clearly sound the open E on the 3rd note in the triplet.
Your goal with playing these ornamental notes is to make them sound very even in volume and consistent in timing. This will take quite a bit of practice to achieve this high level of sound.
This same series of hammer-ons and pull-offs is again repeated in the 4th measure.
The next challenge will be the 6th measure, whereby you are combining hammer-ons and pull-offs within this complex eighth note run. If you memorize this run, you will find that your speed will increase quickly as this series gives you some much-needed rest of the right hand picking.
Keep a close eye on the up and down strokes of the RH picking hand. This is especially true when playing all of these ornamentals. You will find that it seems to be an unorthodox up and down method, but when analyzed, you can see that the down picks are on the down beat and the up picks are on the up beat.
As always, start out very slowly and play smoothly and consistently. Once you have memorized this break, only then should you start to work on your speed.
