Playability That Won't Break the Bank Featuring a mahogany body with maple top and flamed maple veneer, a three-piece wide-fat neck with rosewood fingerboard and moon inlays, PRS-designed pickups and chrome hardware, the SE Custom 22 provides utility and quality at a reasonable price.
HFS Pickups Originally meaning Hot, Fat and Screams, the HFS features a powerful ceramic magnet and hot coils for an aggressive tone when cranked, clear highs, searing midrange and thumping bass.
The Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 22 produces a wide range of tonal possibilities enhanced by a variety of switching options including master volume, master tone, and 3-way toggle pickup selector.
Wide Fat Neck The Wide Fat neck has the same nut width as the Wide Thin neck but has a big comfortable profile, similar to PRS's Regular neck. Because of its strength and longer "heel," the Wide Fat neck produces warm tones with lots of sustain.
PRS Tremolo Back in 1984, Paul Reed Smith was granted a patent on his tremolo system. The design elements are simple and resemble the traditional fulcrum tremolo but with some important differences that help ensure return to pitch and a lack of tuning instability. All adjustment screws are inset and made of brass, and there are no rough edges. The tremolo arm stays where you put it, and won't wobble or break off.
SE Custom Available Colors The Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 22 is available in Cherry Sunburst, Gray Black, and Tobacco Sunburst finishes.
Finish PRS finishes their instruments with a polyester basecoat and acrylic urethane topcoat. Acrylic urethane looks and feels the closest to the old nitro-cellulose finishes but without the finish checking.

From the quality of wood to the great-looking design of the Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 22 you can immediately tell there is a great deal of attention to detail with these beautiful guitars.
The color combinations are almost limitless and each one compliments the beautiful choise of curly or tiger maple appointments that is used in each of these guitars.
PRS uses their own design for tuning machines and the tuning operations is effortless with smooth action and no "wiggle". These are quality tuners that will make your guitar stay in tune.
I would prefer a solid Ebony fingerboard to the Rosewood. Ebony IS available on the upper priced models and as well worth the extra money to get it.
The finish as the above pictures represent, is flawless and mirror-like. Very beautiful indeed.
PRS has used, in my estimation the one of best available pickup systems for electric guitars - the Humbuckers.. The Humbuckers are fantastic and I would expect nothing less from pickups of this quality.
For the bass-side pickups they used Humbuckers, but of their own design. Interesting concept that produces a very nice, balanced tone. I love it!
Right out of the box this guitar just felt good. The action was perfect, as was the intonation and harmonics.
My personal preference does not lean to PRS's use of their "Fat Neck". While some guitarist's may prefer this, I would be much happier with a slimmer and faster neck.
The Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 22 is built like a tank with all quality materials. Form the woods used for the body and neck to the tuning machines and hardware. Very impressive.
The Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 22 guitar will take a beating on the road and still give you many years of service.

From the curley maple top to the mahogany back, this guitar is great looking and great sounding. Finish is perfect and the quality of construction in very evident.
The combination ofHumbucker pickups and PRS-designed bass humbuckers perform flawlessly and gives this guitar amazing sound and versatility.
