Featuring a carefully chosen, solid Canadian cedar top and laminated Indian rosewood back and sides, the C1 Classical Guitar is a beauty to behold and play.
The headstock and fretboard are of Indian rosewood. Nickel-plated tuners and silver-plated frets are installed to last a lifetime.
The tone, resonance and beauty of fine guitars are all dependent upon the wood from which they are made. The wood used in the construction of Rodriguez guitars is carefully chosen and aged to guarantee the highest quality.
The grain must be close and absolutely vertical. The shop is totally free from humidity. The Rodriguez classical guitar features a multi-colored wood rosette, as exquisite as the sounds that issue from it.
For backs and sides, Rodriguez uses Brazilian Rosewood and Indian Rosewood (Jacaranda).
For the neck, Rodriguez uses cedar from Honduras as preferred over heavy Mahogany. There are many kinds of Cedar, as the name is used on so many continents.
Necks are reinforced with 2 Ebony strips on the underside of the fingerboard to give total rigidity and to eliminate movement cased as a result of the aging of the guitar.

The Rodriguez C1 guitar has a quality solid Canadian Cedar top and, provides a remarkable clear tone for a guitar with laminated wood back and sides. The braces inside the guitar are carefully sanded and very smooth to the touch, which is another feature you seldom see in a guitar in this price range.
The grain of the Cedar top is quite fine and vertical, which contributes to the fine sound you get from this guitar.
The tuners of the Rodriguez C1 feel very solid and are of good quality. The rosette in very beautiful and adds class to this quality instrument.
The combination of Canadian Cedar top and the care used in the internal bracing used in the Rodriguez C1 guitar give it good character and the notes played in the lower register are quite good. The note played in the higher register are a quite thin, which is something that I would expect with a guitar with laminated back and sides.
The guitar that I played was ok, but quite high in action. This is quite often the case from Spanish luthier's as they DO send the guitars out with high action. I would suspect this would be because it is easy to lower action, but a lot more difficult to raise action on a Classical Guitar.
Even when I received my Ramirez Concert model, which now lists out a $25,000, I had to do quite a bit of work on the action to suit my playing style. So plan on some bench time with this classical guitar or any classical guitar for that matter if you wish to attain the ultimate in playability.
All classical guitars are quite fragile and should not be abused, but this guitar is made in a shop that is free of humidity and that will help guard against cracks due to poor humidity control. With this as well as any quality guitar, insure that humidity is kept as constant as possible with humidifiers in the winter and de-humidifiers in the summer. Abuse with this as well as any guitar will definitely ruin it, so handle it with care.
The neck is of the Rodriguez C1 is constructed of Honduras Cedar, which is very stiff and tough. Also, the neck is reinforced with (2) Ebony strips on the underside of the fingerboard, which eliminate neck movement.
Be sure to read the following article on care for your instrument: Guitar Humidity Control. It addresses climatic conditions you should consider with the purchase of a guitar with solid wood.
Rodriguez is a quality luthier and stands behind any defects in their instruments. If no abuse is involved, your guitar will be repaired without any question. Also all vendors listed herewith will give you an additional warranty on these fine instruments.
The Rodriguez C1 is not intended to compete with guitars in the $1,000.00 class and above, but it certainly hold it's own with guitars in this price class.
Being that the Rodriguez C1 has the solid Cedar top and great fan bracing, it allows great sound to come through. With the laminated back and sides, you get durability and a guitar that will last you many years without a great deal of repair costs.
I would highly recommend this guitar to the beginning guitar student or small child.
I sold a ton of Yamaha Classical Guitars years ago during the height of the Japanese infiltration into the guitar market. If this guitar would have been available at that time, I would have recommended it over the currently available Yamaha's.
